NELSON.
Wednesday. Last Saturday news was brought to town that payable aliuvial gold had been discovered m Tadmor Valley. Lowther' Broad, R.M., started for the place on Monday, and to-day telegraphed to Mr. Curtis as follows : — " Visited Tadmor rush ; about forty men are on the ground. The recent floods washed away a considerable ex* tent of top soil, leaving gravel bed, and m this 1 the prospect was found. Baggs and party got £30 tvorth of gold last week m four days for three men. Paratas and party are making 30s. a day per man, and tbe claim belotr them has a similar prospect. Baggs and party are working stratum of wash dirt about 2ft. thick, lying on clay bottom ;' depth of sinking 3ft. to 4ft There are indications of a regular lead. If one exists, it runs through heavily timbered fiat land. A claim has been taken ilp, and payable pi'ospects obtained where the timber land ends. A mile away from where the supposed lead enters the timber land, the whole of the land is freehold. Holders of present claims washed five prospects for me, each one showing payable gold. The place will only carry a limited population, unless the lead proves to be of considerable width. This Will be ascertained by prospecting alone." L. Broad, the owner of the land, claims compensation at one pound per claim per man, of which arrangement the miners approve. Tadmor is 40 miles from Nelson. Tlie railway runs half way. and the rest is a good dray_ road. A telegram to the " Evening Mail " says there is every indication of a good alluvial lead, but the miners deSrecate a rush at present, as so very ttle prospecting has been done.
