FOXTON.

Wednesday, 7th March, local board. The Assessment Court for the above Board was held at the Court-house, Foxton, on Wednesday, the 7th March, at 10 o'clock, before Robert Ward, Esq., the Judge, Who; m opening the Court, said that the duties of the Court were twofold — first; for the purpose of ascertaining whether the Act had been complied with as regards the valuation ; and, secondly, to hear any objections that might be brought before it. Mr Ernest S. Thynhe; m reply to the Judge, said he tfas Secretary and Valuator of the Foxton Local Board, and {hat he had been appointed Assessor of the Local Board, which appointment had been duly recorded ih the Board's iriinute-book. He aiso said that the Local Board had complied with the requirement of the Act m advertising once a week, which advertisement had appeared m the " Manawatu Times," and that notices had been sent to all the ratepayers. The Judge said, that as no objection had been taken to the mode m which the valuation had been made, he would be satisfied with the evidence before him, and accept it as correct. Afterwards, Dr. Rbckstro' objected to the Valuator on the ground that he was also Clerk to the Local Board, but was informed by the Judge he ought to have mentioned this m his notice of objection, and that it w&s how too late to entertain it. Mr Membrey's objection was rejected on the ground that he had sent his notice of objection to the wrong Board. Several other objections were dealt with, although most of the objectors did not appear.
