7' Post" has the following :—While a r^T- gentleman was preaching m his church m Willis-street on Sunday, there " entered unto him " a big black dog, who calmly took possession of part of the pulpit, and with head uplifted above the side thereof, .gazed down upon the congregation, while attentively-listening to the discourse. The preacher, on descrying his companion, stopped his discourse, and regarded him askance. Ponto returned the gaze with a benevolent expression of countenance, and a friendly wag of his tail, as who should say, " You go ahead, and I'll hear you out." But decorum had to be observed, so one of the congregation came up the steps, and Ponto was persuaded to depart. No doubt, m his canine mind, he thought it hard lines that he could not be .allowed to go to church as well as his master. At the volunteer monthly battalion parade 1 yesterday the bands outnumbered the rank and-file. There is great disgust at Gtago losing the champion belt. The " Guardian " accused some person unknown of villainously tampering with Richardson's rifle. Eepeated experiment has proved that m schoolrooms lighted by windows on both sides, the children Buffer more or less from injured vision; and so important has the subject been considered m Germany that a law has-lately been passed forbidding such windows-in schools. —Exchange.
