AUCKLAND,
Monday. The Railway employes' holiday excursion to Pukekohe was a great success. Elizabeth Blyton, aged 70, attempted to drown herself at Onehunga. A letter m her handwriting was found on her table, alloting her effects to neighbors. The alleged cause is grief for the loss of her husband, who died six weeks ago. [Wednesday. At the inquest on the Parnell poisoning case to-day the widow deposed that her husband when drinking frequently had threatened to poison himself. The Railway Commissioners are today at Riverhead investigating the Kaipara railway management. N umerons settlers on the Mercer line have lodged complaints re the high rates of goods, sometimes being charged more than their worth. A general wish was
expressed to have return tickets avail--able next day. A Maori boy who was locked up witii Te Patui, at Ngaruawahia, confessed to the Rev. Barton, at Karakarika, that the murderer proposed to him a plan to kill Hobson, the warder, and escape. When he refused, Patui then said, "I will kill some pakeha before I leave Ngaruawahia."
