Feburary2. After an excited and personal debate, the motion of want of confidence against the Government was negatived by three votes. ........ The Minister of Lands, against whom misconduct was proved, resigned his portfolio yesterday. "' It is understood that the New Zealand Government has secured the advance of half - a million from the Bank of New South Wales, for two years, on favourable terms. - _ ; Feburarv. 3. The Cable Conference closed to-day. The following, .amongst other resolutions, was canned ■:— That the -^eyeral Governments *f .South > Australia, Queensland, and Western Australia, be invited to open negotiations .for the construction of cables 1 connecting their several colonies with Singapore or Ceylon and ' New and enter into communication with the Government of the United States for the 7 purpose of ' procuring their consent to contribute to the payment of any subsidy, that may be payable m respect of the same ; and further, that m ,all negotiations of the several Governments,, the necessity of procuring a reduction of the present tariff rates: be especially kept, m view, the maximum rate being 6s per word. - The City of New York arrived here last night, >' - ;• The Torres Straits steamer Singapore has been wrecked off the. Queensland s coast. No lives were lost.
