January 27. . , The contest for the vacant seat m the House for Napier is'becbming exciting^ four candidates :are m theifteld, Messrs Buchanan, Rhodes, v Sutton, and Tiffin, of whom two have addressed the elecr tors. Mr Sutton has addressed them at most centres m the district, and has been well received. At his meeting m Napier the salient feature was; a speech by Mr Sheehan, replying to. Mr Sutton, who has likened the party of whom Mr Sheehan is at the head— and who are termed the repudiation- -office-^to pickpockets. Mr Sheehan retorted that if so his party suited the circumstances according to the principle of "set a thief to catch a thief/' '.',.'-. Mr Buchanan addressed a crowded meeting .at Napier last night.
