iMr R. E. Hatch, formerly one of New Zealand’s leading jockeys, and later training at Awapuni, has been appointed stipendiary steward to the Gippsiand district (Victoria). Mr Hatch has been in Victoria for some years, where he held a trainer s license.

Great Northern Guineas. Lou Rosa seems tlie most likely of the Aucklanders to dispute favouritism with Beau Leon and Sir Beau in the Great Northern Guineas next month. lie has more size than most of the Foxbridge breed, and is a strong galloper who should win his share of races. In Dunedin Guineas. Wild Coon, who remains in the Dunedin Guineas, would not, according to Australian rules, he eligible for classic racing as he does not appear in the Stud Book. Ride in Cup. W. J. Mudford. ridor of Yours Truly, winner of the New Zealand Cup last year, is lcporled from Hawke’s Bay to have been engaged for Areas this year. However, as Mudford is under a retainer to Mr W. McA. Duncan, who has Taurangi in the Cup, Mudford will bo required tor her unless released. Night Hawk Sold.

Night Hawk, a Riccarton-traincd gelding, has been sold by Mr D. MeFarlane to Mr J. D. Simpson, formerly ol Christchurch but now of Auckland, and will probably lie trained at Ellcrslie in future. Night Hawk won the Grandstand Handicap on the first day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s Christmas meeting in 1938. Rider Suspended. After tlie running of tho Kopuarahi Hurdles at Paeroa on Saturday A Curran, rider of Midland, was suspended by tho stewards for one month for interference with Cappy. The starter, Mr M. Crimmins, was fined £2 for allowing Foxmond to take up the wrong barrior position at the start of the Ngatea Handicap. Foxmond started irom No. 1 after drawing ninth position. The mishap in which Lady Pay and Radiant Vaals were involved noar the finish of .the Maiden Handicap w'us found to bo accidental.
