INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE AT WORK
Several matters affecting tlie Intermediate School were dealt with at tlie first meeting of the provisional committee which is to act until the appointment of the permanent committee at the next school committee elections. There were present Messrs G. Tremaine, W. B. Tennent, J. A. Grant, H. G. Mills, G. A. Melville, W. G. Black and the headmaster (Mr J. C. Whibley, at nresent at Taihape). Mr L. I. Phmmer was appointed secretary and treasurer and Mr Black chairman. The committee confirmed the appointment of Mr G. H. Gallalier as temporary custodian. Advice was received from the Wanganui Education Board of an interim grant of £25 to cover administration expenses. The meeting decided to communicate with the .board, asking' for details of the basis on which capitation and special grants- were to be made, and also in regard to the provision of essential-equipment. The chairman and Mr Plimmer were appointed to confer arid report to the next meeting regarding the cost of the maintenance of the school. Enquiries are to be made of the West End School and the City Council regarding the provision of facilities for swimming instruction for the pupils of the school during school hour's.
