There was a good attendance at the an nual meeting of the Whakarongo lenms Club. 'The report presented by the president stated, inter alia: “The season can be regaTcled as a successful one. We have a membership of eight, senior men, 14 senior ladies, and 12 juniors. Vc lost the services of our energetic secretary, bliss E. Woodd. and Miss Vautier filled the vacancy. 'The chib’s competitions resulted: Championship singles, M. Phillip (men) and Miss J. Wood (women); handicap singles, P. Cater and' Miss M. Sly; mixed handicap doubles, P. Koehler and Miss M. Hodgson. The weather affected the playing of matches and each of tho A and B teams had two games unfinished. The A team won four and lest two and tho B team won one and lest two. The club affiliated again with the Manawatu Association, after some hesitation, and it will be necessary for the club to consider fully whether it will be worth while doing so this year. The war has somewhat affected our membership _ and matters are not likely to .improve in this respect this season. The finances show a credit balance of £2 6s lOd.” Officers were elected as follow: Patron, lion. J. G. Cobbe, M.P.; president, Mr 11. W. Wood; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Bennett, E. Henaghan, J. llomlcy, E. Johanson, and A. Clark; club captain, Mr F. Eagle; secretary, Miss IT. F. Wood; committee, Misses Vautier and Woodd, Messrs Koehler and Phillip. It was decided to bold *tlie opening day shortly, when other clubs are to be invited. The following ncw_ members were elected: Mrs A. Frith, blisses Dalziel, C. Wood. L. ICnudsen, G. Hodgsen, J. Lynch, F. Lynch, and Mr L. ICnudsen. The matter of affiliation was left in the hands of the committee. The results of the recent euchre party were: Ladies, Mrs Lundy 1, blrs Spencer 2; men, blr Grammar 1, Mr K. Jensen 2; consolation, Mr R. Casson and Mrs Lawrence. Tho basketball club held a meeting recently when arrangements wore made for a dance. The Drama Circle held its final play reading evening recently when two plays were read. The winners of competitions' were Miss A. Olsen, Mr 11. Wood and Miss T. Newcombe. Miss C. W. Vautier, on behalf of the Drama Circle, presented bliss T. Newcombe, who is to be married shortly, with a gift. Several institute members met recently at the hall, when 15 parcels were packed, five as the district’s quota and 10 for the local men serving in the Forces. ' There was a good attendance at the Bible class at Mr Knudscn’s home, when the chair was taken by Mr J. Seymour.
