OHAKEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OIIAKEA, Sept. 30. Mr K. Vile presided over a meeting erf the School Committee, when .thore were present Messrs H. Eliery, R. Bartlett, L. j Kobcrstcin, and the head teacher (Mr I. N. Leet). An apology for absence was received from Mr ,J. Ellery. The Education Board forwarded a circular with details regarding school insurances, but it was decided to take no, action as the proposals had already been carried out. The head teacher's report gave the roll number as 53, and the attendance was good. There wore record entries for the calf’ club and root crop competitions. It was also mentioned that the forestry scheme would bo put into operation this year, the necessary seed frames already having been constructed. The attention of the members was drawn to the long list of repairs and improvements required at the school and the teacher’s residence, 'lhe committee decided to submit the list to the board’s architect, with a, request that they be carried .out as soon as possible. 'lt was, also decided to enquire of the board when the film strip projector ordered and paid for' would bo available. The chairman’s offer to prepare the plots for this year’s root, crop competition was accepted. A discussion took place as to the advisability of holding the school ball this year, in view of the many calls already made...on parents. and many other functions requiring support. It was decided to have’ the ball and practices are to commence immediately. A grant of £1 was made for special prizes for competitors gaining highest marks for. cultivation in the root crop competition. Authority was given for the purchase of timber to enlarge the library book-cases.
