CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS'

A bogey handicap competition was played at the Manawatu Golf Club’s links at Hokowhitu at the week-end, when the loading scores were: — ! A grade.—H. C. Hill, 2 up; A. M. Ongley, A. M. Johns, W. T. Duckworth, square. B grade.—O. A. Collis, square; H. E. Turner, 3 down. Further games played in continuation of the club championships and cup competitions recently resulted as follow:

Senior.—Second round: N. IT. Amon heat W. W. Smith, W. F. Greenbank beat M. T. Church. Quarter-finals: C. G. Moore heat A. G. Cliff, W. F. Greenbank beat E. R. Wimsett, A. M. Johns beat M. A. Ongley. Moore plays the winner of the E. G. Fletchcr-N. H. Amon quarter-final, and Greenbank meets Johns.

Middleweight.—Quarter-finals: R. W. Priest beat W. J. Hodges. Junior.—Quarter-finals: C. Harris beat- A. E. Carrington, N. H. Bailey beat L. ,F. Cooper. B. and A. Cup.—Fourth' round: It. Duncalf beat J. Turner, E. J. Wills beat H. R. Whitehead, R. H. Billens beat W. A. Penman, H. Christmas beat K. G. Innes, D. W. Spring beat M. A. Ongley, J. TI. Millar beat C. A. Collis, M. T. Fairey beat E. J. Wills and A. Seifert. Fourth round: K. S. Glcndinning and W. W. Smith beat M. T. Church and G. P., Hunter; D. G. Long-Ward and F. L. Guiness beat J. Grant and C. L. Mayo; M. B. Osborne and A. G. Anderson beat J. S. Shand and H. E. Fairey. Playing, in a lour-hall match at the week-end, N. G. Amon was round in 71, which was a splendid effort as the course was fairly heavy. He went out in 36 and came home in 35, which is two strokes under t'he scratch score. His card read: Out; 44436 543 3—36 In: 3 4 2 5 4 4 5 4 4—35

Total ... ... '7l . K. S. Glendinning also played a good round of 74.

Two Veterans’ Cup matches were played at the week-end. In one of them A. Seirert accounted for A. J. M. Goodwin, and in the other W. L. Fitzherbert beat W. Seilert'in a game which finished when Fitzherbert ran down a 10ft putt on the twentieth green. Seifert played out of the crossbunker and ran down a long putt lor a ’three and the half at the fourth. Fitzherbert retaliated with a long p'utt for a net four to win Strang’s. He chipped one dead for the win at Lund’s End and he was two up with five to play. Seifert' squared with a splendid putt at the fiiteenth and won the sixteenth to be one up. Fitzherbert won the seventeenth and the eighteenth was halved. J. T. Rogerson has also survived the first round in tho Veterans’ Cup competition.

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. Golfers enjoyed the best of conditions at the Awatapu Links during the week-end. The course was playing very well, although a little slower than usual. Several matches were played, results being: Fourball best ball Stableford.—J. Anderson and J- Kearns. 42 points; W. Woodley and H. Gardner. 42; B. J. Bdl and J. A. Bell, 42; J. Anderson ■and J. Kearns won on the count back. Single bogey.—A grade: B. Wilson, square: G. Rankin, square; B. Murphy, 2 down ; Wilson won on the count back. B grade: W. R. Hoperoft, 2 down: S. Thorburn, 2 down; H. Gardner. 3 down; Hoperoft won on the count back. Fourball Stableford aggregate—C. R. Ward and B. Murphy. 68 points; H Gardner and W. Woodley, 68 points; C. R. Ward and B. Murphy won on the count back.
