Reception of British Children. Arrangements for the reception of the Feilding quota of children who arrived in AVelluigton from England have not yet been completed, hive are to come to Feilding, and as the applications for them are numerous it may be necessary for a ballot to he taken. It is likely'that when a decision has been reached a suitable welcome function will be held.
Colyton Patriotic Committee. A' grand concert and dance is to be held in tlie Colvton Hall on Thursday evening in aid of the local fund for soldiers and refugee comforts. An advertisement appears in this issue. Basketball.
The Feilding Basketball Association concluded its season on Saturday afternoon, wliou High scliool beat L-oUoe’s 13 —1U; (Jld Girls A beat Kias227;4 —7; Old Girls B and leas won by Uoiault from bwitls and St. Brigid’s respectively, lerritorial unuren parade.
Captain D. N. Fcrgusson was in charge of the Feilding Territorial Company at its church parade yesterday, anil associated wich him were Lieutenant F. P. F awcett and Lieutenant L. Raven. The parade was headed by the Municipal Lund. St. Brigid’s Tennis Club. Under ideal weather conditions St. Brigid s Tennis Club opened its new season at the week-end. A tournament was held and the finalises were Miss G. Christie and L. It. Morris, and Miss F. Price and F. Hughes, the former partnership proving successful in the play-olf by 21 points to 17. Tile courts were opened uy the president (Mr T. Kelly), who welcomed the visitors and new members, lie urged the older players to assist the younger .members m improving their tennis and thanked the ladies lor providing refreshments. Reference to the depletion of the ranks of the stalwarts of the club owing to a number of members being on active service was made by Mr Kelly, who said he hoped to be able to welcome them back in the future. Rev. Father M. Broughton served the first ball. Community Players. One of the most enjoyable evenings which Feilding bridge players have attended was held at the Cmnmunity Centre on Saturday evening. The centre had been made festive with bowls of sweet peas and cherry blossom and blazing fires made the rooms cosy and inviting. Over 80 people were present. Much credit is due to Mrs McDowall and Mrs Ford, who organised the gathering on behalf of. the Community Players and acted as hostesses, and to Mrs Wilton, who very capably supervised the supper arrangements. The prizes were won by Mrs S. Parkes, Mrs A. Palmer and Mr N. Ingram.
