GIRL GUIDES.
The Takaro (6th Palmerston North) Girl Guide Company opened their meeting this week with roll call and inspection, followed by a bean, relay. Service stars were presented to the following:—4 years, Bernice Packer, Pat Snelling, Elisabeth Alerton; 3 years, June Barkwith ; 2 years, Beverly Packer. Phyllis Cook; i year, Lesley Ellis, Peggy Britton; knitters’ badges, Bernice Packer, Natalie Orman; domestic badges, Jean Smale, Lesley Ellis, Sylvia King, Alabel Smith, Phyllis Cook; cooks’ badges, Beverly Packer, Phyllis Cook. The evening ended with carols. All Saints’ Ranger Company met on AVednesday, but the attendance was low owing to the rain. The time was spent in plaiting wool and stringing buttons for hussifs. Final arrangements for goods for the patriotic shop were made.
The Hokowhitu Brownie Pack held part of their meeting out of doors this week. There was a new running game to learn and work at semaphore, while recruits learned one or two knots and other things necessary for their enrolment. A flower game was played and the names of flowers learned. The Brownies sang “Good King AA enceslas” and heard about their Brown Owl’s recent ski-ing holiday. The new.St. Andrew’s Guide Company are devoting their evenings to studying for their second-class badges, which they hope to gain this year. At the last meeting there was an impromptu concert, the proceeds of which were given to the Patriotic Fund. Miss At. AVilson, who has been acting as lieutenant, has gone to AVellington.
