AIRMAN INTERNED

It is officially announced that Lead-ing-Airman Bruce Rennie Laing is interned in Sweden. His mother is Mrs Martha Laing, 30 Pali Road, Auckland. MARCH THROUGH STREETS.

Proudly exercising their right to carry fixed bayonets, a battalion of the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurlv’s Own) impressively marched through tho city to-day, evidencing to the crowds which lined the streets the fine respite achieved by three month’s intensive training at Epsom. The Mayor took the salute and congratulated the officers and men on their soldierly bearing.' WAGE INCREASE EXEMPTION. In a judgment delivered by Mr Justice Tyndall, the Arbitration Court to-day granted the application by the Auckland Transport Board for exemption from the general order of a 5 per cent, wages increase to employees. Exemption, was granted to the board because of the bonus of 8 per cent, 'having been granted by the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr Ritchie) prior to the issue by the Arbitration Court of the general order. In-another judgment, the Hospital Board’s application for exemption from the general order was refused.

LABOUR CAUCUS

WELLINGTON, Sept. 28,

The legislation to be introduced in the forthcoming session was discussed at a caucus of Government members to-day. It was adjourned at 1 p.m. till this evening, but it is likely it will continue on Monday. WANGANUI INCIDENT. WANGANUI; Sept. 27. Found this morning in a' chair in the office of the manager of the Commercial Bank of Australian ously injured with a bullet wound on the side of the head, the proprietor of the Vacuum Cleaning. Company, Wanganui, Mr John Frederick Couchman, aged 33, was taken to the Wanganui Hospital, where he died to-night. Constable T. Waite, who was called to the bank, found a .33 calibre revolver lving alongside Mr Couchman, who was bleeding extensively from the wound. Mr Couchman, who lived in Caius Avenue, Gonville, was a married man with three children. He had gone to the bank in the course of Ins usual duties of cleaning earned out by the firm.
