The Mayor (Mr T. L. Seddon) returned from Wellington this* Sveek, having attended meetings of the Provincial Centennial Council, the Provincial Patriotic Council and the executive of the Municipal Association.
The friends of Mrs R. E. Young, junr., of Aorangi Street, will regret to learn that her mother, Mrs IS. A. Pike, has had to enter a private hospital in Palmerston North.
Mrs K. Richardson, of Plinimerton, is visiting relatives in Feilding.
In the transfer of Mr G. M. Moffitt to Palmerston Nortli Feilding loses one' of its prominent citizens. Mr Moffitt has been a resident of Feilding for nine years, and has held many executive positions, including the following: Treasurer of tho Feilding Aand P. Association, a member, of the executive of the R.S.A., president of the Golf Club and a member of tho executive, executive of the Feilding Aero Club, vice-chairman of the Feilding Defence League, officer in N f o. 2 Military Reserve, executive of tho Feilding Club, and the executive of the Feilding Territorial Association. Mr Moffitt leaves for Palmerston North next month. Members of the Territorial Association were impressed, last evening, by tile large number officers from outside districts present at the ball. The visitors included Major G. E. Pollock, who was formerly clerk of the Court in Feilding, and who, while residing here, organised a volunteer machinegun section. Major Pollock has just concluded a four months’ period of intensive training in a Territorial camp.
.There passed away recently at New Brighton one of that town’s bestknown residents, Mr A. W. Owles, at tlie age of 92 years. Mr Owles was a brother-in-law of Mrs E. R. Bridge, of Feilding, and during his residence at New Brighton for over 50 years lie played a prominent part in borough affairs. Mr Owles took an active interest in all sporting bodies and. was either patron, life member, president or vice-president of almost every club and organisation in the town, as well as being a member of the local Borough Council and Mayor for a period of two years. He was made a Justice of the Peace in 1927 and was awarded the Coronation Medal in 1937 ; and lie was instrumental in the foundation of tlie Brighton Masonic Lodge. Mr Owles was twice married, his first wile being Miss Rebecca Shannon, of Geraldine'. and the second Miss Ann Louise Davidson, of Christchurch, sister of Mrs Bridge, of Feilding. His daughters are Mesdames 11. Sewell (Tcnmka), H. Taylor (Christchurch), R. Cameron (New Brighton), and liis sons, Messrs A. H. Owles (Kenya Colony, "South Africa), 0. Owles (Wellington), E. A. Owles (Westport), and' H. Owles (Christchurch).
