GOLFER’S DISQUALIFICATION

A player competing in a northern golf club’s senior championship recently was disqualified for carrying fifteen clubs, which is an infringement of a rule introduced about 15 months ago by the controlling body of the game, the Royal and Ancient. Club. The rule reads as follows:—“The clubs used by a player during a round shall not exceed 14 and the clubs Carried shall be restricted to that number.” It has also been decided that if a player carries 14 clubs he is not permitted to borrow a club from dny other player. It has been stated in an exchange that this disqualification is the first in New Zealand, but that is not correct, as D. Harkness, a member of the Palmerston North Golf Club, was similarly disqualified when playing in his club’s senior championship twelve months ago, soon after the New Zealand Golf Association had given notice of the rule being applied to New Zealand clubs.
