GAOL SENTENCE.

A sentence of three months’ gaol was to-day imposed in the Magistrate’s Court on John Silvan Beaumont, labourer, aged 21, who pleaded guilty to two charges alleging certain offences. Sergeant i\ Murphy explained to Messrs J. T. Bosworth and T. R. Lees. J.P.’s, who were on the Bench, that there had been a number of complaints from Palmerston North recently about such offences. Accused’s father asked that the Court place no obstruction in the way of accused, proceeding to camp on October 3. Sergeant Murphy said accused had been convicted previously oil two charges of being unlawfully on licensed premises and on two charges of assault. In imposing sentence, the Bench explained that if the Army authorities still wanted accused to proceed to camp there were avenues through which this could be effected.
