MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TO-DAY’S SITTING

The fortnightly sitting of the Alagistrato’s Court in Feilding was held to-day, Air It. Al. Watson, S.M., presiding. Lloyd A. Patchett, of Kakariki, was charged with the theft of 4041 b of copper wire valued at £8 8s 4d, the property of tho ltangitikei County Council. Detective J. G- Long, who prosecuted, said that accused had been employed by the council. Enquiries regarding the whereabouts of the wire had been made and it was found that it had been sold to a firm in Palmerston North by Patchett. Air D. C. CulJinane appeared for accused and pleaded guilty. Air Cullinane said that accused had acted innocently in selling the wire as he had asked permission to take it. Detective Long said the foreman had denied that he gave permission to Patchett to take the wire. The wire was valuable, although the rubber casing had perished. His Worship agreed that copper will be particularly valuable and he pointed out that accused had stolen a large quantity. A conviction was entered and a fine of £4 imposed. Accused was also ordered to make restitution.
