GARRISON BAND.
On Sunday afternoon, at the Esplanade, the Garrison Band, under Conductor H. T. Guthrie, commenced its 1940 season. The afternoon was fine, with a fresh breeze blowing, but this did not prevent a good number of nuisicJovers front being in attendance, when the various ■ numbers were well received. The band was at full strength, despite the fact that some members have left for overseas, two at present being in England. Mr Guthrie has the buncT in good shape, with lull, rich tone and precision, and many, bright programmes should be heard front them during the season. The programme rendered was: “The King”; march, “Harlequin” (Ilimmer); overture, “Tancredi” (Rimnter); foxtrot, “Till the Lights of London Shine Again” (McKenzie); waltz, “Thoughts” (Alford); march', “Conquest” (Gullidge); song march, “Dinky Di” (Howardo). this being dedicated to the A.1.E.; descriptive, “Paddy’s Patrol" ; march, “The- Crusader” (Louisa); “God of Nations.”
