SEMI-FINALS PLAYED

) The annual legal golf tournament, which commenced oil the Manawatu Club’s course at the week-end was advanced a stage further this morning, when the semi-finals were played. The .finals were due to be held this afternoon. The tournament attracted numerous competitors from outside the city, and was played under good ground conditions.-

PALMERSTON' NORTH CLUB

Golfers were very fortunate during the week end, weather conditions being ideal for play. Several matches were played at the Palmerston North Club’s links, including the quarter-finals of the A and B grade championships. Saturday afternoon saw some good scoring in a four-ball bogey. Nine up was carded by J. Child and B. Wilson ; their best ball was 77 off t'lie stick ; 'this was good for players of 16 and 20 handicap. A medal handicap was held on Sunday morning, when 12 players equalled bogey or better. A single Stableford was held in the afternoon. Results of various matches are:

Club championship.—Quarter-finals : A. B. Ward beat D. Tottman. D. Harkness beat L. De Cleene, F. "Ward beat R. Mace, E. Astin heat A. Chapman.

The Nimmo Cup was won by J. ST. Ramsay, who beat J. L. Tucker at the 20th. The Selwyn Cup was won by J. A. Bell.
