LEGAL TOURNAMENT,

SEMI-FINALS PLAYED

) The annual legal golf tournament, which commenced oil the Manawatu Club’s course at the week-end was advanced a stage further this morning, when the semi-finals were played. The .finals were due to be held this afternoon. The tournament attracted numerous competitors from outside the city, and was played under good ground conditions.-

Handicap played on Saturday morning, was won by H. F. Bollard, 86—20—69, with J. R. J. Bennett, 83 —10 —73, and P. C. Miles, 81 —7 74. The Cy-Press Handicap in the afternoon went to W. F. Stilwell, and I. \Y. Mackie, 88 —14 —74. Others close up were; N. H. Rawson, 90 —15 —75, and P. W. Dorrington, 91 —16 —75. The teams match was won by M. H. Oram, A. W. Yortt, M. B. Bergin and E. J. W. Hallctt, 320. Next came N. H. Rawson, M. Smith, P. W. Dorrington and S. K. Siddells, 323.

The Distress Foursome, played to-day, was won by Ballard'and llill, 94 —21 —75, with Yortt and Ongley 83—14 —74. Mackie and Ballett 942 —76, Wiren and Hennery 89—13—76 and Quiliiam and Richmond 89-13—76.

PALMERSTON' NORTH CLUB

Golfers were very fortunate during the week end, weather conditions being ideal for play. Several matches were played at the Palmerston North Club’s links, including the quarter-finals of the A and B grade championships. Saturday afternoon saw some good scoring in a four-ball bogey. Nine up was carded by J. Child and B. Wilson ; their best ball was 77 off t'lie stick ; 'this was good for players of 16 and 20 handicap. A medal handicap was held on Sunday morning, when 12 players equalled bogey or better. A single Stableford was held in the afternoon. Results of various matches are:

The Nimmo Cup was won by J. ST. Ramsay, who beat J. L. Tucker at the 20th. The Selwyn Cup was won by J. A. Bell.
