(From Our Own Correspondent.; WHAKARONCO. Sept. 19.

A record attendance filled the hall on Wednesday night, the-occasion of the concert and dance held by the Women’s In stituto in order to pay the Hall Commit tee for the use of the hall by the drama club. An excellent concert had been ai ranged, (hose taking part being _ Miss E. Lancaster (pianoforte), Mr Cronin (vocal), Dulcic . Needham (elocutionary), Mrs Jamieson (vocal), Margaret Alderson and Master Alderson (vocal duet), Valerie Needham (character dance). The highlights of the programme were the playettes presented by the dance circle. The characters in the first play were Mrs Phillip, as Mrs Mowenstein; Miss A. Olsen, as the maid; Mr H. W. Wood, as Woodchuck, the schoolmaster; Mr E. Newcombe. Ikey •Mowenstein; and Mr - D. Needham,

Snowy. Those in the second play were: Mrs J. Morris, as Mrs Bareham; Mrs A. Frith', Mrs Pilbeam; Miss C. L. Vaulior, Mrs Bliek; Miss J. Wood, Florrie; Miss W, Vautier, Grandma Barebam ; Mr ,T. Morris, Mr Barebam ; and Mr A. Crawford. Jonathan Tuttle. Credit is due to Miss 0. W. Vautier, who produced both plays. Mrs S. Oxcnham conveyed the thanks of the institute to all who had contributed to the success of the evening. An enjoyable dance followed, the M.C. being Mr E. Morris. A competition was won by Miss W. Vautier.

Institute merpbers’ parcels for the troops will be packed on Monday and contributions of biscuits in tins are being solicited.

It was a pleasant surprise to residents' to see Mrs Clark, who has had a lengthy stay in hospital, at the function last evening. It is hoped her good health will continue, bliss Edna Clark is at home till the end of the month, when she will leave to take up her studios in Wellington.
