MANAWATU ASSOCIATION
, The Manawatu Hockey Association’s season concluded on Saturday, when Phoenix met Broadway in the senior A grade final of the known handicap competition, at the Hokow'hitu Domain. The ground was fast. Phoenix, with the addition of a handicap of 7_goals, beat Broadway, who were on the scratch mark, by 9 goals to 4. Phoenix had but ten men, and only seven of these were senior grade players, while Broadway also bad a number of juniors playing, for them. The game, however, was very open and fast, both teams using their wingers well. Broadway held a. territorial advantage in the first half, but Phoenix turned the tables in the latter stages.' For Broadway, Dilks and Beale both played well. Beale scored two of his side’s goals, one being from a penalty bully, and Hodgson and Burrows notched the other two. Botting. w'm scored one gqal, played an excellent game for Phoenix, being good both in defence and attack. Phoenix’s second goal was scored by Donaldson. The umpires were Messrs W. H. Wilson and F. McLacblan.
