COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES.
The popularity of one of Rongotea’s young ladies was shown at “tjraven House,” Rongotea, when Airs I. Foster gave a party in honour of the coming-oi-age of her daughter Joan. Between sixty and seventy young friends of the guest of honour were able to enjoy themselves in the spacious sittingroom, • while the older folks sat over a cheery log fire in the drawing-room. Dancing, games, competitions and items were enjoyed, those taking part being: Songs, Aliss D. Alatheson and Air J. Peacock; pianoforte and piano accordian duet, Aliss AI. Pearson and Air G. Pearson. The guest of honour looked very becoming in her frock of powder blue hailstone net over taffeta, with contrasting sprays. Mrs Foster received her guests in a model gown of black satin romaine with red shoulder sprays-. Among those present were : Aliss D. Alatheson, floral, white fur coat; I. Alatheson, green; AI. Mason (Halcombe), pink floral talleta; L. Fieldhouse, blue taffeta with velvet cape; AI. Tremaine (Sanson), green net: S. Tremaine, green; E. Foster, mocle] gown, black taffeta with sequins; AI. Pearson, blue crinkle crepe; J. Gloyn, blue and white organdie; W. Parker, floral silk; T. Tew, clover satin romaine; AI. Huddleston, black relieved with white; E. Fergusson, green; I). Kempton, black velvet; OVoss, wine windswept satin relieved with gold sequins; P. Hunt, green crepe; D. Field, green marocain; AI. Tew, lemon iloral silk; Alisses E. Field, A. Hunt, S. Hunt, J. Smith; Mesdames Alason, black satin and lace,' red 'spray; Gloyn, black velvet, white coat ; Walsh, red satin; Alesdames Field, Parker, Pedley, Roberts, Pedley, Alessrs Roberts, Collins, Alason, Field, R. Pedley, Walsh, A. Pedley, 11. 0. Gloyn, 6. Clausen, E. Roberts, C. Palmer, D. Lind, G- and T. Pearson, Alason, Smith, Print, Gloyn, Huddleston, Hunt, 8., T. and R. Foster, and J. Peacock. The importance of the event was emphasised by the presentation of a golden key by Rev. C. AI. Roberts to Aliss Foster, who was accorded musical honours. Air H. G. Collins (Awahnri) endorsed the remarks made by Air Roberts. Pride of place on the supper table was given the beautiful birthday cake made and iced bv Mrs and Aliss Alason, of Halcombe. The guest of honour thanked all present for attending and helping to make for such a delightful evening, also tor the many handsome gifts received. At the home of Mr and AHs R. Walker, of Willis Street, Palmerston North The coming of age of the twin sons, Alessrs Leo and Edwin Walker, was celebrated recently. They were the recipients of manv gifts and congratulations from the large gathering present. The toasts honoured were : I lie King” (proposed by Mr F. Wilson); “Alessrs L. and E. Walker (Mr V.
