(From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Sept. 19.
The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Guild was held on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs J. L. llocLson presided and also present were Mesdamcr. A. \V. Benseman, J. Cawood, A. Doughty, D. McNicol, G. Watkins, W. Jensen. IT. G. Mapson, Misses Cowan, Strahan and A. ITodson. A letter was read from Miss Snlmond (principal of the Presbyterian Women’s Training Institute, Dunedin) also two letters from - women students training there. Mesdames A. Benseman and E. Miller were nominated as Apiti and Table Flat representatives on the selection committee. Arrangements were made for the sale of work next month It was decided to ask the menfolk to provide trophies; also to have competitions for the children as well as the usual adult ones. Mrs Benseman and Miss Cowan were appointed to the produce stall ; Mrs Watkins and Miss Strahan, sewing; and Table Flat ladies, sweets The tearooms will be in the charge of Mcsclamcs Doughty and McNicol, with helpers. Stewards for the competitions will be appointed later. Mr 3 McNicol takes church duties to follow Misses Cowan and Ilodson. The Young Farmers’ Club held their monthly meeting on Monday. There was an attendance of 27 and Mr J. R. Osborne presided in the absence of the chairman, Mr IT. M. Mclntyre, who was indisposed. It was decided to donate £5 to the Fighter Plane Fund. Mr Gilder (Government Veterinarian) spoke on veterinary matters. The rural science committee of the Apiti District High School met on Tuesday evening. Those present were Messrs W. McKav (chairm %'),’ J; D. Kileour. J. Jensen, IT. C. Mclntyre, G: Watkins, I-I. Jensen, J. IT. Cowan, S. F. Morris and J. R. Osborne (lion, secretary). Plans for the Centennial Park were discussed and arrangements made to plant the trees in the first week in October. Messrs J. and IT. Jensen, S. F. Morris and J. R. Osborne were appointed a sub-committee to attend to the. details. Part of the experimental plot is to be sub-divided into trial plots for 21 different kinds, and strains of crops. This selection consists of seeds which have not yet been on the market. They have been sent from Lincoln College research station, Christchurch. The possibility of erecting a shed on.the section to hold manure, tools, etc., was also discussed.
