FEILDING CLUB. The annual report of the Feilding Cricket dub states that tho 1939-40 season was a successful one, although tho club did not feature in tho championship honours. The best batting figures wore registered by R. Edelsteh, who won the Lovott bat, given for the best average. The bowling honours went to W. IJunn. Inclement weather was experienced towards tho end of tho season, and the club had difficulty in keeping its team together. “It is with deep regret that wo report tho death of our vice-president, Mr Hugh Mclntyre, who had generously supported tho club over the past 20 years,” tho report adds. “He took a keen interest in the activities of the club and was always ready to give assistance when needed. The prospects for the coming season are somewhat uncertain owing to several members having joined the Colours. It is, however, hoped that tho club will be able to field a team in the competition .Thanks are due to tho club’s patron (Mr C. A. J. Levctl) and the president (Mr V. E. Smith) for the help and guidance given. The club’s finances are in a sound condition and, given good weather, the club is hopeful of making an early start with its games. The grounds should be in good playing order this year on account of tho wickets having been returfod instead of topdressed.”

NOMADS CLUB. Tho Nomads Cricket Club lias little tradition to back it up, but in its two years’ existence good progress has been made, and each year the club is growing in popularity and performance, and faces the future with confidence. If is interesting to note, tho annual report states, that the club succeeded in being the runner-up in championship honours last season and this performance is a matter of pride. Enthusiasm has been sustained throughout the club’s career, and thanks are duo to the club captain (Mr W. Glecson) for the work he has done in training tho'team. Officers and supporters of tho club arc also thanked for their interest in tho club, which is hopeful of winning the championship in tho coming season. Congratulations are extended to Old Boys, who won the competition from Nomads by a margin of one point. Several players have enlisted, and tho club wishes them success and a safe return.

PUBLIC SERVICE CLUB. The following report of the Public Service Cricket Club states, inter alia: —“The club had an enjoyable season;, two teams were maintained throughout and the B grade team did particularly well for its second season in the field by finishing as runner-up with 19 points to High School with 21 points. Keenness and regular practice has brought about this result. The A grade team finished fourth in the competition with 5 points, Old Boys winning with 11. AVe congratulate Old Boys on a thoroughly deserved win. Our A grade team contested all its games strongly and on no occasion. was it heavily defeated. AA’e record with appreciation tho donation of £2 2s again from our president (Mr R. M. AVatson. S.M.). The club’s finances are in a satisfactory "state. Mr S. Sauer is the first of our players to leave us on active service: we wish him a safo and early return. So far the effect of enlistments for war service on our club ranks has been small, and it is our earnest hope that two reams can bo again fielded this year. At .the conclusion of the season our team captain (Mr L. Bennett) loft to reside in JPdlmerston North and we regret his departure. Ho was a keen player and an able captain.
