SOCIETY’S ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Feilding Horticultural Society was held last evening, Mr A. Williamson presiding over a fairly good attendance. Tho report (already published) and the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £lB 6s sd, were adopted. Mr It. M. Watson, reporting on the financial position of the society, referred to the fact that the organisation had purchased a number of vases and that the assets were mounting every year. The problem which now confronted the society concerned the storago of the equipment, and suggestions were invited from members as to suitable places for this.. It was stated that already £5 towards the prize money for tho next show had been donated. Regarding the . forthcoming spring show, it was stated that in some (quarters surprise had, been expressed, that the society proposed to hold the fixture. It was pointed out, however, that most of the societies in the Dominion were carrying on during, the war, the only question which might arise being whether the -society, should donate any excess profit to war purposes. Mr Williamson congratulated the society on the progress it was makingand paid a tribute to the work of tho secretaries (Mesdames R. M. Watson and K. G. ! Ross).
It was decided that the'spring show bo' held on November 20. Members were invited to make suggestions for the improvement of the show and a discussion took place on the question of the.title of the .show. It was the opinion of several members that tho spring show should be named tho summer show. It was decided not to make any alteration in that connection, however. The rules were amended to -provide for the committee t'o consist. of five members and not more than fifteen. It was also resolved that the lectures which had been such a success in the past be continued at the spring show. The committee is also to’go into the matter of improving the staging arrangements as far as possible. Mr K. G. Ross, commenting on the growth of the society, said he considered that the time had arrived when recognition should be given to the older supporters of the shows. He referred to tho interest Mrs J. E. Barltrop had taken in the society over the past 30 years, and moved that she be elected the first life member. Hq felt that that honour was due to her, for not only had she been a consistent exhibitor for many years but had also willingly given her services as a judge. The motion was seconded by the chairman and carried.
