MANGATAINOKA INSTITUTE.
A good attendance of members at the September meeting of the Mangatainoka Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Purves. Votes of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mrs Kelly and to Mr and Mrs Tapp and family were passed. In paying tribute to Mrs Kelly, Mrs Purves spoke of her sterling qualities. She had always been ready with a helping hand when needed. It was decided to donate £1 to the Makogai leper appeal, and members were asked to bring parcels to the next meeting. Mrs Waldman and Miss Pryde were appointed delegates to attend the counoil meeting at Eketahuna. A donation of 10s was made to both the Dominion and Bush federations. Five soldiers’ parcels are to be forwarded again this month. It was decided to hold the annual dance this year. The hostesses were Mesdames Williams, Pryde and Holtham. Competitions resulted: Bloom, Mrs King 1, Mrs Holtham 2, Mrs Ross 3; marmalade, Mrs Pryde 1, Mrs Ross 2, Mrs Purves 3; hand-knitted socks, Mrs Macrae 1, Mrs Purves 2. Mrs Hughes 3.
