PRIZES FOR SHOW.
FURTHER GIFTS RECEIVED.
MANAVATU ASSOCIATION
Several further donations towards the prize list at its forthcoming Spring Show were received at a meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association to dav, at which the president (Mr C. E. Vile) presided.
Mr E. W. Collins (Newbury) forwarded £5 5s towards the’prize funds, and the Mana'watu-Oroua Power Board advised that it would make a grant of £2 2s. The Mauawatu Trotting Club advised that it would give £7 10s for the prizes for two trotting events, the events Which it considered suitable being one for trotters only of 11 miles and one for pacers and trotters of II miles. An endeavour would be made to make these events more successful than la®t year. The Manawatu Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association stated that it would subsidise the prize money in numerous classes in the Jersey heifer section, that the Waipiko Jubilee Cup would be competed for, and that Mr C. G. C. Dormer had given £1 Is for second and Mr J. A. Russell 10s 6d for third.
The president said it was pleasing to note that the donors still had confidence in the association and were prepared to help it by their generous gifts of trophies. A vote of thanks was passed to the donors by acclamation. There were displayed at the meeting a handsome silver tea and coffee set (presented bv Mr J. W. Perry for the fat lamb section) and a silver vase for competition. The donors were also .heartily thanked. The tea. and coffee set is Valued at 30 guineas and was said to be the most handsome trophy the association had ever received for a prize in that section It was stated that as a result of the Trotting Club’s action the trotting classes had been reinstated in the schedule. , -
A motion of sympathy with Mr R. M. Perry, a regular exhibitor at shows, in the death of hia wife, was passed. The secretary of the National Patriotic Committee, Wellington, wrote extending thanks to the association for remitting its proportion of the gate takings, amounting to £ls 4s sd, on the occasion of the Rugby match between Manawatu and the Trentham Army team. Mr A. J. Galpin, Bunnythorpe, was granted leave of absence as a committeeman while he is in camp with t'he Territorials.
Mr B. E. Iveiller appealed for support for a meeting of prospective hall exhibitors, in an endeavour to have space booked to have the halls filled completely during the Show.
