NORTHERN TENNIS CLUB.
OFFICERS APPOINTED
Officers of the tennis section of the Northern Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club were elected at the annual meeting, at which Mr AV. M. Sexton presided, last/ evening 1 . The officers are: Vice-president, Mr D. McPherson; hon. secretary, Miss J. Brown; club captain, Mr AV. M. Sexton; vice-captain, Mr F. Cowley; committee, Mesdamos Cowlishaw, Smith, Hobin, Misses Barling, N. Stuart, J. Andrews, Messrs Cowley, Hobin, Scott, liaddon, AVilby, Perrin; delegate to the general committee and to the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, Mr Sexton. A report of the season’s activities was submitted by the outgoing commit-; tee and . was approved. “Tne season opened under the shadow of war and it was at once evident that the club memhershilip would be affected,” stated the report. ‘‘During the season some of our members joined His Majesty’s Forces for service overseas, and others were engaged in war duties at home. The falling off in club membership was comparatively small in the circumstances, and members on active service were made honorary members lor the duration of the war. The courts were maintained in good order throughout the season, although the weather conditions were particularly trying at times . The practice of spelling two or three courts each -week is a good one and should be continued. The club expresses its thanks to Mr Lynch for his care and unfailing cour-' tesy and its regret at liis retirement. It also takes the opportunity of welcoming Mr I hie and assuring him of its co-operation for the good of the game.” Thanks are accorded all who assisted the club. A letter from the Northern Table Tennis Club conveying a donation to the Tennis Club funds was received with thanks.
