OBITUARY.

SIR HAROLD CARPENTER

(Rec. 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, Sept, 16. The death is announced of Sir Harold Carpenter, the prominent metallurgist. His body was found in a stream near Swansea.

Sir Harold Carpenter, who was knighted in 1929, was born in 1875. Ho waa professor of metallurgy in the Royal School of Mines at the Imperial College of Science and Technology. From 190613 he was professor of metallurgy at Victoria University, Manchester. He 'was a past president of the Institute of Metals, president of the Iron and .Steel Institute, a past president of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, and chairman of the Metallurgy Research Board of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. He received many academic awards in connection with his profession, and had published numerous scientific works.
