GAMING ACT CHARGES
THREE MEN FINED. As the result of a raid carried, out by three detectives in conjunction with the Feilding police, yesterday afternoon, charges of breaches of the Gaming Act were preferred in the Magistrate’s Court later against Noel Hurdle, of l>rake Street, Albert E. Hosken, of Fergusson Street; and Cecil Saunders, of Kimbolton Road. Mr R. M. Watson. S.M., was on the Bench. Hurdle pleaded guilty and was fined £IOO. with Court costs 10s, on a charge of keeping a common gaming house. It was stated by the police that accused had three previous convictions for offences under the gaming Act. Hosken pleaded guilty to a charge of street betting, and was fined a like amount. The police stated that Hosken had been convicted on four previous occasions for breaches of the Gaming Act. Saunders admitted a charge of keeping a common gaming house. Accused, it was stated, had not previous!v been before the Court, and a fine of £9O was imposed.
