ESTATE IN SICILY SEIZED
The Prefect of Catania has issued a decree under the “Law of War” for the seizure of the “Hood-Nelson Duchy” of 15,000 acres in Sicily, belonging to Lord Bridport, Duke of ! Bronte, says Reuter. The title of Duke of Bronte was bestowed on Nelson by the Bourbon King of Naples. Lord Bridport is a descendant of both the Hood and Nelson families, which were united when Samuel Hood, second Baron Bridport, married Nelson’s niece, Lady Charlotte Nelson. Duchess of Bronte.
In a letter published in the London Times of July. 1939, Lord Bridport said that in accordance with the wishes expressed hv Mussolini at Palermo in 1937 he began to adopt in the Duchy of Bronte a system of farming which had already had the effect of the formation of many self-supporting peasant, farms. He added that the fulfilment of liis nlans for improving the "condition of the peasants depended on financial assistance from.the Italian authorities to put his rehousing schemes into operation, ns the peasants’ dwellings wor in many cases too far from their small farms.
