ATHLETICS AND CYCLING.
In its review of the past season the Feilding Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club states that although the road cycling season was not hold (permission was given the cyclists to ride in Palmerston North in order to enable them to get more competition), tho track I season at Kowliai Park proved successful and popular. Both cycling and athletic divisions wore satisfactorily supported, while the children’s athletic events created much interest and good fields were seen at the weekly evening sessions held throughout- the summer months. In December the club held a sports meeting at Johnston Park, but although the entries were satisfactory the attendance of the public was smail and tlie club suffered a loss of over £l9 as a result. This seriously depleted tho funds of the club which, however, is in a satisfactory position despite this setback and.has been able to meet its commitments. The club commenced tlie new season with no liabilities and considerable assets in tlie way of equipment, etc., and a small credit balance. Several members of the club have joined the military forces and it is anticipated that the ranks will be further depleted in the coming season. It is tlioA hope of the club, however, to carry on and concentrate on the junior sections and the sponsoring of athletic, events for the children. Thanks arc expressed to the many supporters who helped the club.
