Mrs Christie, of Petono, is visiting her daughter, Mrs W. Ogden, of Liddell Street. Mr G. G. McDonald, 8.A., has been appointed to the position ol secondary assistant master (war appointment) in the T'oxton District High School. Mr McDonald, who comes from Hawke’s Bay, will take the place of Mr J. L. Thomas, M.A., who has been accepted for service with the military forces. The Man-Power Committee will not re’eaee Mr Thomas from his present position till the end of the year. A Stablelord competition played by the women members of the Herrington Golf Club was won by Mrs H. A. Hannay with Mrs S. E. Crawford and Miss G. Neylon filling second place. At the annual meeting of the Foxton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club the president (Mr G. F. Smith), in his report, outlined the activities of the club during the past season, which had been most successful. The cycling road racing season had been carried on by a small but enthusiastic band of cyclists who were to be commended for their tenacity. The athletic meetings had all been well-attended, while the basketball section of the club had also had a most enjoyable period. In spite of the possible continuance of the war, be thought that the forthcoming season would be more successful than the ■ last.
