VALUERS INSTITUTE.

CENTRAL DISTRICTS BRANCH

The annual general meeting of the Central Districts ((Nort'h Island) branch of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers was held in Palmerston North recently, those present being Alessrs 11. P. Kay (chairman), F. AY. Coombs, It. L. Gibson, P. A. Thomson, L. D. Lovelock, G. C. Iveeble, N. H. Mackie, AY. G. Lyons,' R. H. Allen, W. H. Hartnell and E. T. Tomlinson. The chairman’s report stated that the year under review had been a successful one and the work of the branch had been carried on as fully as possible having regard to the difficulties associated with petrol restrictions and the fact that the district covered ;a wide area. At the end of tho financial year the membership was 71, of whom four were on active service. The practice of reading papers had been instituted at meetings and added to their attractiveness. General matters which had been occupying the attention of the branch were the formation of other branches, establishment of a suitable branch library and effective statistical bureau, ’ payment of travelling expenses for meetings and increasing t'he membership. The capitation allowed to the branches was only sufficient to carry out bare necessities, a nd it was hoped that an improved position in the head office finances would allow of increased capitation. Messrs N. H. Mackie and O. F'. Baker, who represented the branch on the Dominion council, were thanked for their services.

The adoption of the report was moved by the chairman and seconded by Mr Gibson and was carried, members bringing up matters of current interest, including branch and head office finance, travelling expenses and the holding of branch meetings, in discussing the report. Officers elected lor the ensuing year are: Chairman, Air H. P. Kay; vicechairman, ATr R. L. Gibson; board, Alessrs G. G. Gilson, G. L. Ewen, V. Alonrad, P. A. Thomson, N. E. Gifferd, F. J. Douglas, H. AT. Besley, J. F. Oakley and N. H. Alackie; auditor, Air F. AY. Coombs. Air Alackie brought up the matter of - holding monthly meetings and offered to procure suitable papers for reading at these. Papers could be circulated to the members who could not attend. It was resolved that the incoming committee be requested to arrange for monthly meetings, to bo held in the afternoon and evenings alternately, and that a programme of addresses be drawn up in advance and that all members be advised of the programme as arranged. At a meeting of the board of the branch a letter was received from the head office- enclosing forms for .completion of the statistical bureau. The whole matter of the bureau was discussed and it was resolved that a subcommittee consisting of Alessrs Kay, AA r ilson and Alonrad, with power to add, be set up to control the bureau. The nomination of a member for the Dominion council was discussed and held over till the next meeting.
