COUNCIL OF WOMEN.

AIANAWATU BRANCH. At Hie monthly meeting of tho Alanawatu branch of the National Council of AVomcn, held at tho Y.W.C.A. yesterday, Mrs J. A. Harris (Turakina) occupied the chair. Others present were: Alesdames A. C. AlcCorkindale, W. G. Short, K. ltoss (Feilding), T. Green (Stanway), A. K. Drew (Sanson), W. I' 1 . Field, J. O. Boniface, Briclen-Jones, Aliases AT. Alatheson, Al. Grant, AI. Jones and C. Jamieson (lion, secretary). The president reported that Aliss K. Simpson. (Bonny Glen) had recovered from her recent indisposition. Pleasure was expressed by members at the safe return to New Zealand of Airs Duncan Simpson (Alartou), a former president of the branch. A petition from the New Zealand Alliance to be forwarded to the Prime Minister requesting reforms in the licensing laws was received. An invitation for two members to attend the sixth birthday gathering of the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild was received, Aliss Jamieson and Airs Boniface l>eing nominated. Headquarters reported having sent on. behalf of the brandies a letter of appreciation to the Prime Alinister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) regarding the vote for women police and asking for special consideration in the selection of suitable women. An assurance to this effect was given in reply from Air Fraser. Headquarters also forwarded an appreciative reply received from the A.D.C. to the Queen of Holland for a letter of sympathy in the troubles besetting her country, sent from tho New Zealand branches. Headquarters intimated that until the policy of the National Council regarding the Women's War Service Auxiliary was defined it was considered National Council members as such should refrain from participation on district councils of the auxiliary. Future action would bo decided when reports from observers bad come to band. Airs Jones was appointed observer to attend the meeting in Palmerston North.
