It was declared in the House of Representatives that a majority of members were in favour of shifting the capital from Wellington and they would take an early opportunity of placing the matter before Parliament.
fifteen thousand acres were swept by forest fires in Montana and Idaho (United States). The elections in the Union of South Africa were proceeding, and assured the Botha National Ministry of a small majority.
