HARD LABOUR IMPOSED.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. The possession of pamphlets described by the Magistrate (Mr J. L. Stout) as being of an scurrilous nature resulted in the conviction of James Kelman, aged 37, a hairdresser, who was charged last Thursday with having in his possession 127 copies of a pamphlet entitled “Murder” with a view to facilitating the publication of a subversive statement. Sentence was imposed of twelve months’ hard labour. . . , . ~ Mr Stout did not think it could seriously be contended that the pamphlets did not contain a subversive statement. Accused had given no evidence to explain his possession of them, and Mr Stout thought iff could properly be inferred that the only reason for his possession ' was to facilitate publication.
