CHRISTMAS PARCELS.
PACKING BY COMMITTEE. The packing and despatch of ChristI mas parcels for soldiers occupied the local Patriotic Committee during the weekend, when 278 parcels were packed and sent forward to headquarters. Many more parcels have Been prepared and consignments from outlying districts in Zone E have come to hand. Mrs A. C. McCorkindale, who is in charge of the ladies’ committee, stated to-day that the zone’s quota of 620 parcels would be exceeded before the end of the present week. The final consignment of parcels must go forward by September 20. A generous donation of 200 peggv squares has been received from the children of Taonui School in addition to a collection of very useful tins. Mrs McCorkindale said the gifts from Taonui >vere most acceptable. Concerning the response to the appeal for parcels and cash. Mrs McCorkindalei said it had been wonderful; the people had given very liberally to "the cause.
