REDUCED ACTIVITIES
SCHOOL COMMITTEES’ ASSOCIATION, The activities of the ManawatuOroua School Committees’ Association have been curtailed because of the war and the restrictions on the use of petrol, states the president (Mr TV. 13. Tennent) in his report for the year, ’file rationing of petrol has made it necessary to curtail travelling as much as possible, and as a result the executive has called meetings of members only twice this year instead of quarterly. “We have felt also that the Government should be approached only, on matters which are most urgent, and therefore, to assist in the war effort, we have continued to put up with certain inconveniences which we would not otherwise have done,” the report adds. We are pleased to report that the Education Board acceded to our request not to open the new Intermediate School tins year. Wo trust also that the board will accede to the association’s request and grant a higher rale of capitation to those schools serving the Intermediate School. “At the last board election Colonel J. H. Whyte did .not offer himself for re-election. He had served the school committees on the board for the past eight years, and our thanks fire due to him for the manner in which he has watched the interests of the association. Mr TV. G. Black was elected unopposed in his stead and to him we offer our heartiest congratulations. TVe know from past experience of his interest in the association that our interests will he well watched on the board b.v him and Mr Brown.”
