WAITUNA WEST.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAITUNA WEST, Sept. 16. At the monthly meeting of (he Women’s Institute /Jis E. E. Pearce presided over a good attendance. . The members wore entertained by visitors from the Makino institute. Mrs Simpson gave a talk on the social side of the institute and also showed a display of articles in crayon work done on linen and organdi. A demonstration was given by Misses Matthews (Fcilding) on hair-waving. A descriptive music study was given by Miss Humphrey, also of Fcilding. A vote of thanks accorded the visiting members for their splendid programme. Members are looking forward to Mrs Simpson bringing out another programme party which has been promised for a future meeting. The drama circle was reorganised and the first practice will bo held at the residence of Mrs Pearce early in the week. Mrs Pearce and Mrs M. England were elected delegates to attend tlio council mooting to bo held in Fcilding in October. An invitation from Stanway was received “to 1 attend a birthday afternoon in October. The competition for “something now from something old’’ resulted: —• Mrs Pearce 1, Mrs Stokes 2, Mrs Churchcr 3, and for the best flower from the garden, Mrs Stokes 1 and 2, Mrs Johnson 3. Two dozen lamb skins, which have been collected, washed, and cleaned by .Mr 1 Churchcr, have been banded to Mrs Pearce, and have been sent to the tanners to be tanned for the making ot gloves for minesweepers. Next month a box course and lecture from Massey College on “Uses of Wool on the Farm” will bo features. It is hoped that a good attendance of members will bo present. The competition will be for a baby’s cot quilt, to bo given to t the refugees’ cause. The hostesses will bo Airs Churchcr and Miss M. England. After- I noon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Stokes. I
