CARNARVON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, Sept. 13. Mrs Gibbons presided over a happy gathering of 15 members at the institute on Tuesday. Mrs Will read the prayer for peace, also for all soldiers. The Marton Institute kindly offered to send copies each month, which was gratefully accepted. Members stood in silence as a mark of 63-10-nathy with Mrs J. Dixon in the recent loss of her mother; a letter of sympathy is also being sent. A letter was received, from the United' Guild conveying thanks and an invitation to a meeting. The sum of 5s was donated to the Makogai leper fund. Correspondence was also received regarding Miss H. Johnston’s' visits to institutes. The offer was not accepted. In response to the appeal from Rongotca Patriotic Committee for biscuits and cakes, 46 tins of biscuits and six cakes were received, 21 of the«c being, received from Tangimoana well-wishers for tho Christmas comforts fund. The competitions were' judged by Mesdamcs Netlleton and Luxford -and resulted: Bloom, Miss Clare (primrose) 1. Mrs Zajonskowski . (hyacinth) 2. Mrs Knight (gaillardia) 3: sponge, sandwich. Mrs Will 1, Airs H. Dixon 2, Mrs Thompson 3. The sale of cakes and raffle of the ! first prize cake brought in 13s 6d for emergency funds. The show schedule was rej vised. Mrs Sandercoek won another competition. Mesdamcs Will, Luxford: and Miss Gibbons, served afternoon’ tea.- . j - Air and Airs D. Scott; of Tikokino, spent the school vacation with Mr and Airs P. Scott. Airs Ncttlcton, of Wellington, is , visaing Atiss Clare. I • The school, attendance has been affected Iby children suffering from colds and influenza. One case of measles is also report--1 cd. in the district.
