Sheep farmers in Hawke’s Bay are anticipating a record woof clip this season. Already shearing operations are a common sight in Southern Hawke’s Bay. At a meeting of the Woodvilie Horticulture Society Mr S. Turnbull presided; The forthcoming shows were discussed and the following judges appointed: Fruit and vegetables, Mr R. Gregory; cut flowers, Mr Gibbs; . decorative, Mrs Gibbs; home industries, Miss J. Beattie; stewards, Mr Turnbull moved that the same stewards as last year ha appointed subject to their approval; tearooms, Miss Peebles and Mrs Wamoek. In the children’s section for the best collection it was decided to allot prizes this year of ss, 3s and 2s. Mr H. Nicbolls offered to donate a trophy for the open rose section and this was gratefully accepted. It was decided to hold an auction sale of flowers at the close of the show for patriotic purposes arid a stall is also to be held. The summer show was fixed for November 29. W' ...
Representatives of tbo Woodvilie School travelled to Pahiatua yesterday to "play various sports. The Woodvilie Rugby team beat the Pahiatua School by 9 points to 8. The girls wore not so fortunate, being beaten at basketball 11—7.
A meteor was observed travelling in a north-easterly direction from Woodvilie last evening. It was of largo dimensions,very brilliant, and shed a shower of fiery spray. The secretary of the Woodvilie Patriotic Society (Mr £>. Keay) acknowledges further contributions to the Spitfire Fund as follow: Previously acknowledged, £ls 15s; J. M. Graham, £1 Is; “A.Z.,” £5; B. G. Dobson, lfts 6d; total to date, £22 6s 6d.
DANNEVIRKE BOWLING CLUB.
A increase in membership and jl strengthening of interest among younger bowlers, were reasons advanced by the president (Mr .T. Campbell Carston) for the success of last season, when he presented his report at the annual meeting of the Danncvirke Bowling Club. Mr C. P, Burkinshaw moved a vote of congratulation to the officers and committee upon tho excellent state of the club’s affairs. Officers for the coming season were elected as follow: President, Mr W. Howarth; vice-presidents! Messrs A. C. Bibby and H. E. Young; auditor, Mr W. Dobson; hon. treasurer, Mr W. J. Woods; secretary, Mr J. E. Tyler; committee, Messrs N. A. Gandell. f! Allai-diee, P. N.
