PATRIOTIC CONCERT.
TO-NIGHT’S BIG ATTRACTION.
The drive being made by commercial travellers in Palmerston North for funds for patriotic purposes should benefit considerably from the big concert which will be held in the Opera House to-night. The travellers have brought all their experience and talent for organising functions of this nature to work with happy results in arranging this concert, for they have assembled a wide variety of talent, and many popular artists and interesting items appear on the programme. The numbers include those to be given by the Huia Straight Eight, whoso appearance will he a leading feature of the programme: Mr J. Pizzev (George Formby’s double) and Mr -V Christian, of Wellington (Sandy Powell’s double), who will give novel impersonations; Mr D. Lunacy, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, a well-known radio vocalist from Auckland; “Amos and Robbie,’’ well-known local artists whose items arc always popular; Mrs N. C. Holland (soprano) and Mr W. B. Tennent (bass baritone), two pleasing vocalists; and Mr C. 8011, a skilled xylophonist. These performers will he assisted by a strong orchestra under the conductorship of Mr J. Wingate. Arrangements have also been made for a further spectacular scene on the programme when the art union recently conducted by the commercial travellers will be drawn. This will take the form of a tableau in which pupils of Miss June Scott will assist.. Prices arc popular and the concert should receive enthusiastic support.
