JAPAN’S IDEALS.
EAST ASIA PROGRAMME
(Rec. 12.25 p.m.) TOKIO, Sept. 13. The Foreign Minister (Mr Y. Matsuoka), addressing the Japanese Trade Association, said the Greater East Asia programme was at present concentrated on the acquisition of materials and t[ie arranging ot sources of supply to which" the assignment of the Minister of Commerce (Mr S. Kobayashi) in the Dutch East Indies was related.
“In establishing Greater East Aisia and common prosperity in that sphere, it is necessary to co-operate with countries having similar aspirations and simultaneously to crush ail obstacles in the path,” he said. “Japan, in order to cope with the present complex international situation, must put her house in order domestically and strengthen her national deience and national power, and, in accordance with the spirit of the Imperial way, let each Asiatic race fulfil its own ambition, so that all countries may enjoy and maintain a common prosperity.” Regarding trade with those countries not belonging to the East Asiatic sphere, Mr Matsuoka said barter methods would be increased.
