Mr W. G. Nicholls is now in the R.N.Z.A.F. training school at Harewood and his brother. Mr Lloyd Nicholls. lias been at Wigram since June. Thev are the only sons of Mr and - Mrs Nicholls, of Colombo Street-, Palmerston North.

Mr Howard Knight, B.Sc., a young New Zealander who lias been working in China for eight years under the China Inland Mission, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday. Mr Knight, who lias been stationed on the Tibetan border, has recently passed through war-torn areas on his way to the coast. He will be speaking in local churches on Sunday and Monday. The death occurred at his residence, 302 The Parade, Island Bay, on Thursday, of Mr David Munro, formerly of the Railway Department, and, since his retirement, well known in bowling circles. The late Mr Munro, who was 79 years of age, was born in Dunedin. Till about 20 years ago, when he retired on superannuation, lie was Chief Traffic Auditor in the Railways Department. He lived for many years at Thorudon, and there developed a keen interest in howling. He was at one time a president of the Thorndon club. On transferring his home to Island Bay, Mr Munro joined the Island Bay club, in which he held office. He won the Wellington singles championship one year, and was also runner-up in the New Zealand pairs championship. He was an elder brother of Mr J. AY. Munro, M.P., of Dunedin, and is survived by two sons, Mr D. G. Munro, of the Public Trust Office, AVellington, and Mr A. G. Munro, formerly of Eastbourne and now of Auckland. His wife predeceased him about 17 years ago. The late Mr Munro was well-known in Palmerston North, where he had competed in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s Easter tournaments on a number of occasions, being held in the highest esteem by his fellow howlers.
