BOMBING IN EGYPT.

ITALIAN COMMUNIQUE

(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) ROME, Sept. 12. A communique states: “We bombed by day and night a railway along the Egyptian coast and enemy encampments at Solium, and Sidi Barrani, causing fires and explosions. We machine-gunned enemy armoured units. The British ineffectually tried to raid Derna (Cyrcnaica). We destroyed a Blenheim bomber, and also probably another. One of our planes lias not returned. We sank two enemy destroyers at Aden on September 1. Italian planes bombed Khartoum airport, Hayia railway junction and Atbara airport (in the Sudan). All our planes returned.

“The British attempted to attack the Xassala bridgehead (on the Su-dan-Eritrean border), but Italian guns sent them back alter an hour’s engagement. Another enemy attack made at Cherilli was also repulsed. The enemy bombed Assab (Eritrea) and Cachaman (south from Addis Ababa, Abyssinia), causing slight damage. An enemy piano was shot down. Enemy planes attempted to raid the Massawa naval base (Eritrea), but dropped their bombs in the sea. Two raiders were destroyed at Dcssve (Abyssinia) on September 9. An Italian submarine sank 27,000 tons of enemy shipping in the Atlantic.”
