j AUCKLAND TITLE. RETAINED BY AIRS GLANVILLE. j ELIAIINATION OF AIISS SAIILLIE. | Alaintaining the excellent form u.he showed in eaiiier rounds, Airs P. R. Glanville, of Te Awamutu, yesterday successfully defended her title of Auckland woman provincial golf champion, beating in the final Mrs K. Dyke, formerly Aliss Joyce Belts, of Nelson, New Zealand Tasman Cup representative, 2 and 1.
Airs Dyke, whose 'first appearance it was in the Auckland Province, had an easy win in the morning over Mrs L Rota, of Hawera, but Airs Glanville was taken to the seventeenth by the Titirangi player, Airs L. F. Faram. The title-holder was not playing well; her driving being consistently at fault.
Airs Rota, who played quite well on Wednesday to beat Airs L. Cornaga and incidentally win the concurrent Gtableford with 32 points, was quite out of touch, and Airs Dyke had the game in her grip after half a dozen holes.
Airs Faram on Wednesday afternoon beat Aliss N. Smillie, of Palmerston North, who had qualified top, the match going to the eighteenth. Airs Faram made a good start with three bogeys and won the holes, but the match was square at the eleventh. Aliss Smillie hardly played as well as previously and Airs Faram made few mistakes over the vital part of the match. At the last hole Miss Smillie played a wood for her second shot and found the bunker, and that final error settled the issue.
