PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION
At the monthly meeting of the Takaro Progressive Association those present were Messrs E. H. Smith (chairman), E. B. Bor.ham, A. D. Barkwith, J, H. Cribb (lion, secretary), Mesdames I). Evans, £. Lyall, E. G. Hammond, R. Packer, S. J. A. Bu6st. The chairman said that, in compliance with the association’s request, the City Council had now placed seats in Takaro Park. Appreciation had been expressed to the association for its gesture. It was decided to forward the council a letter of thanks. Radio interference in the district was stated to bo still very prevalent. The radio inspector had endeavoured to trace the cause, but so far without success. Jt was realised that tlie causes ot tlie disturbance were sometimes very hard to locate. The secretary was instructed to get in touch witli the radio inspector again and ask if any progress regarding the cause lind elimination ot ttie disturbance has been made. Tlie resignation ot Mr Driiger as all active memuer of the committee was received with regret. Mr G. Beere, of Bryant (Street, was elected to fill the vacancy, Mr 0. H. Handley wrote on behalf of Mrs Handley and himself, accepting the jiosition or judges of this year's Jamieson Cup garden competition. It was decided that the chairman get in touch with Mr and Mrs Handley and explain the rules governing the competition, and also tlie area to be judged. The chairman said it was pleasing to note general gardening activities; the district as a whole looked very neat; there wero few neglected street lawns and he felt sure even these would in time be attended to. Preliminary arraugme.uts for the children’s annual sports day were discussed. It was suggested that a prize be given the res.dent who has lived in the district the greatest number of years. On further discussion it was decided to complete arrangements at the next meeting. The fact that Lyndhurst Street was on occasions being used as a stock route was brought to the notice of the association. It was also mentioned that damage to roadside lawns had been caused by careless motorists, it being considered very disheartening to find patches torn out of these lawns. The recent formation of a progressive association at Longburn was noted with pleasure, it being decided to forward a letter of congratulation and wish the association success in its activities.
