AIR ROBBER FOILED.

GIRL SWALLOWS KEY. NEW YORK, Aiig. 17. _ Rosemary Griffith, a pretty air stewardess, was mysteriously attacked the other night as the American Airlines sleeper-plane roared westward from New York. Postal authorities ordered the air mail to be impounded after the girl revealed from a hospital bed that she had swallowed the key of the baggage and mail compartment to keep it from an assailant.

The 24-year-old stewardess was found unconscious in the lounge of_ the airliner a few minutes before it landed at Nashville, Tennessee. An airline official said Miss Griffith was suffering from bruises and cuts She told him she entered the darkened lounge and heard a man’s voice say: “Give me that key or I will slug you.” Then she was struck heavily on the head, but managed to swallow the key before she lost consciousness. X-rays confirmed the swallowing of the key. The passengers were questioned for three hours by the police, but it was not disclosed whether anyone had been held.
